Happy Days!

Happy Mother's Day!  This past week we worked on talking about and celebrating all those wonderful people in our lives and families including moms, dads and grandparents.  We made cards and pictures for all of the people listed above and more this week and learned about the power of doing kind things for people we love.
We got the help from teachers to write down information about mom and dad throughout the week and hope they enjoyed the notes that went home with words straight from the mouthes of babes.
We used our hand prints to make sunshines for our lovely mothers who hold the sunshine in our hearts!

The teachers took pictures of the children and turned them into little flowers the children used their fine motor skills to add decorations to the flowers.

After making our flower arts and craft project we read a book about mothers and all the great things women who care for us do for us each day.

Once the book was done we went back to the tables to work on letter matching with capitol and lower case letters to add petals to more flowers to bring home to mom, dad, or anyone at home.

By Wednesday our teachers read us more books online this time with a focus on the men in our lives who help us each day, our dads and uncles and grandfathers.
After writing about our fathers we went fishing by drawing on and cutting out fish and threading string into the fish to go fishing.  Many of us talked about going fishing with fathers, uncles, grandfathers and brothers.  Lots of terrific conversations as we worked this week.

We worked on helping out around the classroom and cleaning up our toy tools like we can offer to do to help dad in the garage as well.  We worked as a team to get the toy tools scrubbed with soapy water, dried and put back where they go in the classroom.

By Friday we talked about who we have seen wear a tie and then made our own ties to wear and many of the children ended up wearing them and playing in them most of the preschool day.

We used a blank map to put together grandma's neighborhood complete with trees, houses, people and pets.  When the bell would ring the children would switch to another station where they matched fish with the correlating numerals and dots into ponds at another station.

Another station allowed for the children to build grandma and grandpa's houses by putting together the floor, windows and roof.  The children mixed and matched colors of houses by building them all one color, then two colors then three different colors.

The last station we rotated through was a grocery store activity where the children were given grocery shopping lists complete with pictures to find the groceries mom and grandma needed to use for dinner.  They did a fantastic job in this role playing activity.

We did some fun STEM activities on Friday as well by building fishing boats out of popsicle sticks.  The teachers operated the hot glue gun while the children designed the boat to see which team of children and teachers could create a boat that floats!  It was amazing to see the creativity of the children in their engineering of their boats.
The best part...ALL the boats were able to float!  While some of them held more plastic people than others every boat that was built floated on it's own and held at least a few people.

Before heading home for the week we did a little more writing, made cards, played games about grandparents on the iPad, and took class photos!

What's Coming Up?
This is going to be our last week at PHS as we celebrate all the learned that has taken place this year at our ceremony on Wednesday the 16th.
For our last day of preschool, Monday, the 14th, we will be talking about Disney and having fun doing some of the children's favorite activities of the year.
