We made ghosts and hung them in the room for our party as decoration and did an excellent job following the teacher instructions to fill the ghosts with cotton balls so they all ended up looking the same.
We drew pumpkins, counted seeds for math to match numbers and practiced writing words related to Halloween.
Letter B is for BOO so we used spiders and other spooky items to fill in the letter B for letter and sound recognition.
We worked our small motor muscles in ghost slime as we felt through goo that contained eyeballs and spiders and other creepy items as we pinched and squeezed the goo to hunt down these items took us a long time with this focused fun.
This even was more fun with we added glow in the dark spooky color to it as we turned off the lights.
We used various Halloween items on paper Jack 'O Lanterns to hang up and these will not wilt so you can enjoy them for weeks to come!
Our party was a ton of fun this year as we enjoyed another Halloween tale from our school Media Center staff. Trick or Treating in our offices was another sweet time before going back to the classroom for delicious snacks before heading home to rest up before celebrating the holiday with family. Enjoy these few snapshots of our event!
Friday graced us with a new theme which will be carried throughout next week. We had a great time making dog houses for pets and sharing what animals some of us have living in our homes.
We talked about cows and how they live on farms in pastures not in our houses because they are too big. We made cows out of paper plates with spots that some children turned into dogs with spots instead.
We pretended to be baby birds and used clothes pins to pick out pipe cleaner worms out of rocks to feed little cups we pretended to be baby birds.
We learned about the magical traits animals have who live in the winter weather climates like penguins that don't absorb water and polar bears who use their blubber to stay warm in the ice water. Our penguin pictures were placed in plastic bags that acted as moisture shields for them in the water as the children sprayed colored water onto the picture of their penguin then opened the bag to find the penguin was still dry inside.
To see how polar bears stay warm the kids put their hands in a bowl of ice water first without 'protection' then they placed their hand in a baggie laced with crisco (blubber) then put their hand back in the ice water to find their hand stayed warmer because of the protection the fat gave her.
What's Coming Up?
- This coming week we will be talking more about animals around the world, our homes, in zoos, etc.
- The week of November 19th will be a week off of preschool as it is the week of Thanksgiving.
- We will be accepting tuition payments for the spring semester of this year any time from now through Thanksgiving week. So if we do not have a payment of $200 from you by November 14th we will send you a message letting you know we need it at the latest by the 16th. If this is an issue for any of you please let us know so we do not open up your spot for a new preschooler.
